As 2023 rolled in, I was determined to crush my fitness goals and signed up for a six-week transformation challenge. I pushed myself hard, cooking every meal, sweating through every workout, and juggling work commitments. However, as the final week of the program approached, I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed with my progress. Despite all my efforts, something was missing, and I knew that I needed to take a closer look at my nutrition plan if I wanted to achieve better results.

As someone who works in tech, I couldn’t resist dabbling with ChatGPT — the talk of the town that was dominating every friendly conversation.

“Was this AI tool the missing piece in my fitness journey?”

As a Southeast Asian vegetarian, balancing my macros on a vegetarian diet had always been a challenge for me. Furthermore, as someone who grew up eating Indian food, I had always struggled to balance my love for my traditional dishes with my fitness goals. Many Indian vegetarian meals are high in carbohydrates, making it difficult to find the right balance between taste and nutrition.

Then, in the final week of the challenge, I discovered ChatGPT. With just a few queries, I was able to get a complete and customized seven-day meal plan that not only hit my macros but also catered to my taste buds. I was blown away by the results.

In my first query, I asked ChatGPT to generate macros for me based on my body composition and fitness goals. Within minutes, I had a clear idea of the amount of protein, carbs, and fats that I needed to consume each day. There are several other online tools available to perform this calculation.

In my second query, I asked ChatGPT to create an Indian vegetarian meal plan for seven days and calculate the macros for each meal. I also asked to provide the quantities of the ingredients for each meal. To my surprise, ChatGPT delivered a comprehensive meal plan that took into account my specific dietary needs and preferences.

I even asked ChatGPT to add my preferred brand of protein shake as a snack. It took a few more queries to get some macros adjusted, but in the end, I had a meal plan that was customized to a T. I have never come across a free online meal plan tool that offers such flexibility.

And just when I thought I had hit the jackpot, I decided to ask for one more favor. “Could you put everything in a grid by meal time and day?” I was thrilled to see my entire meal plan beautifully organized into a neat and tidy grid, making it easy for me to follow without any confusion.

I was most impressed by how ChatGPT had the potential to simplify an important aspect of my life. Instead of spending time documenting my meals on MyFitnessPal or doing guess work, I had a meal plan that was structured, organized, and tailored to my specific needs. The best part? I didn’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get it.

Health and nutrition involve multiple layers beyond just calculating macros so this tool is not a replacement for a certified nutritionist. But ChatGPT has definitely empowered me to take control of the basics of my health in a way that feels sustainable and enjoyable.

I’m eager to see the progress I’ll make in the upcoming weeks when I redo my transformation challenge, armed with a nutrition plan that’s optimized for my body and my tastes.
